International women students with a degree in one of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields aspiring to study in the UK have a great opportunity to fund their studies.
The British Council, in association with 26 top UK universities, is offering several scholarships in a range of disciplines at the master’s level or as early academic fellowships.
The second edition of these scholarships will be meant for women from South East Asia, South Asia, the Americas, Ukraine, Turkey and Egypt. Candidates will need to have a strong background in STEM and will have to show their requirement for financial support.
The British Council STEM Scholarship scheme is aimed at encouraging more women to pursue STEM careers and to propel them into research, an area which has only 30% women worldwide.
Data from the UN Scientific Education and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) suggests fewer than 30% researchers globally are women and only 30% of female students select STEM-related fields in higher education.
Worldwide, enrolment of female students is low in information and communications technology (3%), natural science, mathematics and statistics (5%), and engineering, manufacturing and construction (8%).
With world-recognized universities and quality higher education facilities, a UK degree is an extremely prestigious asset where you will gain a head start in both your education and career. The UK is a preferred study destination among international students, including Indians.
There has been an increase of 67,660 Indian students over 5 years, especially in 2019-20 and 2020-21.
