The university defines itself as “a treasure house of achievement and innovative power – the result of more than 130 years of human ingenuity in all its variety leaving its mark day after day.” The Technische Universität Darmstadt (Technical University of Darmstadt or Darmstadt University of Technology) was founded in 1877 and received the right to award doctorates in 1899 which is quite a big achievement in such a small time.
