The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UA Little Rock, or UALR) is a public research university situated in Little Rock, Arkansas. Initially established as Little Rock Junior College in 1927 by the Little Rock School District, the institution transitioned into a private four-year university in 1957, adopting the name Little Rock University. In 1969, it became a public university once more, merging with the University of Arkansas System and taking on its current name. The original campus of Little Rock Junior College now serves as the site of Philander Smith University (as of 2019).
