Does Brown Require an SAT or ACT Scores for Admission?

Brown values standardized tests like the SAT exam or ACT, but they’re not the only factor they consider when evaluating applicants. Brown recognizes that not everyone has the same opportunities when it comes to preparing for standardized tests. They also understand that students from under-resourced schools may not have access to the same level of coursework as students from other schools. So, they encourage everyone to submit all the academic information they can to showcase their readiness for Brown.

Brown is going test-optional for first-year applicants in the 2023–2024 application cycle.

Brown University: Early Decision vs. Regular Decision

Early Decision

If Brown is your top pick and you’re ready to commit, the Early Decision plan is for you. Just make sure you don’t apply to other colleges with early decision plans.

Deadline: November 1st at 11:59 pm (local time).

If you’re applying to other colleges with early admission programs, double-check with those colleges to make sure applying to Brown won’t cause any conflicts. And, if you get accepted through Early Decision, you’re committed to attending Brown. So, withdraw all your other applications, including those for regular, rolling, or open early action programs.

Regular Decision

If you’re not aiming for an Early Decision, the Regular Decision plan is your go-to option.

Most first-year applicants opt for Regular Decision, and they’ll receive their admissions verdict by early April. Mark your calendars for January 3rd, as that’s the Regular Decision deadline.

Note: Students can only apply to Brown using one application method per year. For example, if you don’t get in during the Early Decision, you can’t try again during the Regular Decision.
